Ljubljana Festival is warming up

The Ljubljana Festival is held each summer in Ljubljana’s beautiful historical building and courtyard of Križanke. This former monastery of a German order of knights was renovated by one of the greatest Slovenian and internationally recognized architects, Jože Plečnik (1872-1957).

It is the oldest festival in Slovenia and was founded more than 60 years ago “to bring the world and its best artistic productions to Ljubljana“. It was awarded the Golden Honorary Medal of Freedom – which is the highest award given by the President of the Republic of Slovenia – for its merit in presenting national and international artistic activity.

It attracts notable Orchestras – Opera Houses (the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic…), ballet and theater performers, famous conductors, soloists and also eminent international rock and jazz musicians to perform at the festival.

Ljubljana Festival opens on 27 June at Congress Square with Ars Electronica – a musical and visual performance. This year the festival commemorates the 200th year anniversary of the birth of two musical geniuses: Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi, and gives a special focus to Russian culture.

Highlights of the 2013 Summer Season can be found in the detailed program at Ljubljana Festival official webpage.
