This year’s international music festival Druga Godba introduces a new concept for its 29th edition. There will be only one ticket for the full festival’s 29 hours of music for only 29€. Actually, you can buy it for 26€ if you buy while the presale rate is still good.
The concept of the festival is well known and well accepted among its audience. Simply put, Druga Godba brings us a touch of global diversity or so-called World Music. Last year, for the third year in a row, it was chosen among the best 25 festivals in the world by British Songlines.
It starts in the best possible way, with the Friday night (10 May) concert at Ljubljana’s best concert venue, Križanke Summer Theatre, with African diva Rokia Traoré from Mali. Then the festival heads out for an all-nighter to Metelkova mesto, where there will be performances in all the clubs.
In the morning (11 May) at the other end of the old city center, a musical breakfast will be served at the bar/cafe Okrepčevalnica Repete. From there the festival moves just a short walk, accompanied by a mobile, live street music through the oldest parts of Ljubljana to the bar Daktari at Krekov trg Square.
From there the festival stays put but moves to the adjacent side of the square to the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre for its traditional, lively children’s program, which this year turns out to be a Roller Disco for Kids. Later in the afternoon some events will take place at the Cankarjev Dom Club, plus a literature battle in the Summer Garden of the Slovenian Writers Association.
With the sunset you should head towards Šiška neighborhood. At Kino Šiška the festival picks up its Saturday-night-fever of concerts by groups Shutka Roma Rap and Blitz The Ambassador. The final music-dancing event will then fall into the hands of the one and only DJ N’Toko.
