Pioneer Railway

Have you ever imagined riding a train completely run by children aged 10 to 15? Today this would probably turn into a case for children rights and protections, but half a century ago, just after the 2nd World War, such a railway existed. And not only here in Ljubljana – this phenomenon originated in the USSR and was an extracurricular educational institution, where teenagers learned railway professions.

The one in Ljubljana operated from 1948 until 1954. Not even 4 kilometers long, it had just one stop in the middle.

Today this path is a beautiful bike trail that takes you from near ZOO to Koseze pond through the forest. A very nice ride.
