ZOO @ Ljubljana
When I was a child I was a regular visitor at the Ljubljana ZOO. No matter the time of the year, I loved it there.
Later these visits became less common but were still a must. So last month I visited the ZOO after 5 years and was pleasantly surprised.
The best thing about the Ljubljana ZOO – I haven’t seen anything similar in other city zoos that I’ve visited – is that it stretches out into a green forested environment on the south side of Rožnik hill, which is part of a protected landscape park. The lower, older, part of the zoo is more densely populated, from monkeys to elephants etc.

And one of the quite new, but much appreciated parts features Slovene indigenous animals.
Apart from the animals, down here is a children’s playground, snack bar, vivarium, a section where you can see Slovene farm animals, and even a geological display of big rocks from Slovenia.
.
The most special part starts shortly after the bear and wolf exhibitions as the path leads you uphill almost to the top of Rožnik hill. Here you can see (or maybe better not see) the Lynx, Alpine ibex, Chamois and similar animals as you walk through the forest, easily forgetting that you are at the ZOO.

So while in Ljubljana, why not visit Ljubljana ZOO?
